Gabriella’s Sparkly New Heart

I had the honor of meeting and photographing a very special little girl and her family over the weekend. Meet Gabriella Vega, a sweet and caring little girl who has gone through so much in her short life. From her mother’s (Kristi’s) blog: “Gabriella was diagnosed in April with a severe and irrepairable case of Myocardial Bridging which is causing Secondary Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. September 25, just before being listed for her new heart, she suffered a left MCA stroke, imparing her right arm abilities and taking away her speech.” She is patiently waiting on the donor list for her “sparkly new heart” as they fondly refer to it in her family. After all, Kristi says, how else do you explain to a 5-year-old about a heart transplant? This story hits home for me. You see, Gabriella is just a few months younger than my Abigail. I can’t imagine being in their shoes, and yet, they endure this trial with insurmountable faith and peace. They are one of the nicest, loving, and most grateful families you could meet, and it was my pleasure to be able to photograph them.

If you know me or have ever shot with me, you’ll know that I love COLOR, and we had plenty of it at our session!

LOVE the smiles here!

AND here!

They brought along Gabriella’s Candy Land set, which Kristi attributes to getting them through their hospital stays. Apparently, Gabriella is unbeatable. We’d make a great pair because I’ve NEVER won at Candy Land!

LOVE:

Amazingly, we did not lose a single balloon at this shoot. I attribute this to LONG strings and well placed feet. :)

You guys have good genes :)

Then, it was tutu time-Kristi made this, and you could tell that the minute Gabriella put it on, she felt like a princess! I think I might need to get one for myself :)

I am embarrassed to say that Gabriella has better toenails than I do-6 month old pedicure, anyone? *sigh*

I feel the need to explain why I love this photo. You see, most photographers would never include it-eyes closed, hair blowing in the wind. But the look on her face is so peaceful, I just had to include it. I love it in black and white:

There were so many in this series that I wanted to include. It was windy and the balloons were flying everywhere-Gabriella hung on with all of her might and had a fun time with it!

Now, I knew about Gabriella’s heart condition going into the session, but I did not know about her sparkly new heart. I happened to have these sparkly hearts from Valentine’s Day so I brought them on a whim. I am glad that I did.

You may notice that I have photographed a lot of “heart babies” or “heart kids” if you will. This sweet family was referred to me through Owen’s mommy, who was referred to me through Bela’s mommy, who also referred Lilyana. I am grateful to have met all of these wonderful families, and as far as I know, all of the children are still doing great! I stop by their blogs frequently to make sure, and occasionally run into them at Target (Avery and Andrea). May the Lord bless you all with the power of His miracles-your children have already touched my heart, and I know that they will continue to touch others along their journeys.

I Love Technology…Always and Forever

A quick peek at baby #3 via video:

An attempted thumb-sucking:

And a yawn:

Nope, we don’t know what we’re having, but feel free to guess all you want :)

Lately, I’ve had a hankering to watch the Coen Brothers’ Raising Arizona, so I can’t stop talking like Ed and calling the baby “Junior.” But don’t worry, we won’t be using Nathan Junior or Ed Junior or Hi Junior!

(AND in case you were wondering, we Arizonans sadly do not have that accent) I can’t wait to meet this new little one in July!

Born on the 4th of July?

Since Christmas is the season of giving, I decided to give you a secret tidbit of information, which is that the Earl family will be growing by one come July! The 4th of July to be exact! And while I will spare you a picture of my fat ever-growing belly, here is a photo with a depiction of how I feel right now, as taken in the State Fair mirror:

fat-1

I’m at the awkward-is she pregnant or just getting fat-stage at the moment, which stage is second only to the-did she have her baby or is it still in there-stage in awfulness. BUT we are feeling so blessed and grateful to add to our family. We have the best, most wonderful little girls we could ever hope for, and would love to add another girl or a boy to our family.

Here are some random tidbits of oh-so-interesting information:

1. I have been lucky to not have morning sickness, but not so lucky to have crazy night sickness instead. I crave bean and cheese burritos and chips and salsa ALL the time (thankfully, I live close to Mexico, and we have an abundance), and despise ketchup and syrup to no end. Also, any form of meat is fantastic, especially Texas Roadhouse ribs. So, if you need a gift idea for Christmas…I’m just sayin’…

2. If the baby is born on the 4th, we probably won’t name him/her after our founding fathers, although we do love our country. George Washington Earl just isn’t a good thing. We have names picked out, but they’re not set in stone yet, in case you have some ideas :)

3. We won’t be finding out what we’re having-we’ve actually NEVER found out with any of our kids! It’s fun and a great surprise in the hospital.

4. Both of our girls were born at least 2 weeks early. If the baby is born 2 weeks early, it will be born on my birthday, which is also Father’s Day this year, which would be awesome! Also, Dan hates to wait, so I hope that this little guy or girl follows the trend!

So there you have it! You can stop wondering if I’ve simply eaten a few too many holiday treats this season…well…I probably am guilty of that, too :)

High 5!

I am officially the mother of a 5 year old. Crazy! I can’t believe how beautiful my little girl is growing up to be!!!
AB-3 copy
Abbie with her presents. The cute sign was made by daddy at like 1:00 am. He wanted to make a special painting for Abbie on her b-day. He also has spelling issues at 1:00 in the morning-LOL!
AB-2 copy
We got Abbie a 3/4 size acoustic guitar (Hannah Montana, of course) for her birthday-the ONLY thing she really asked for (with the exception of a book for her little sister-so sweet-we obliged on that one and got Brookie a book).
ABB-2 copy
She also asked for Daddy’s delicious pizza for her birthday. (Made totally from scratch with freshly ground wheat-I know, I’m a lucky girl!)
ABB-1 copy
I love Brookie’s face in this one! I ended up ordering this cake, but I plan to make one for her party next week-wish me luck!!!

And for nostalgic purposes, a few oldies but goodies of my sweet little girl who is growing up too quickly!
