I’ll never forget where I was on 9/11/2001. I woke up to get ready for my classes at ASU. I had a project looming for my Advanced Photography class, and had no idea how to go about it, or what the subject matter would be. While I was in the shower, I heard Dan come in (he left really early that morning to work). I popped my head out to say “hi” to him, and I saw a look on his face that I can’t even describe. Maybe a mix of horror, sadness, and shock…he said, “We were attacked.” He went right in and turned on the TV in our bedroom. I came in and watched in horror at what was on the TV, just in time to see the live footage of the second plane crash into the World Trade Center. I knew we would never be the same.
Back to my project. I don’t know if most people would have grabbed a camera at that moment, but I wanted my project to reflect us right then. To me, it was the most important thing happening at that time. The artwork still hangs above our couch..jpg)
Here is a close-up of the artwork:.jpg)

ohana photographers - incredibly awesome rach.
Laure - I remember this day like yesterday, I have just come back from my job (Paris time) and I was watching TV when programs stop for a special program of information so I lived it “in live”… I was shocked and remind those images for a long time…
Laure from Paris
Becka @Studio222 - Rachael, I LOVE your collages! I remember the first time I ever looked at your blog you had posted one and I instantly fell in love and smacked myself on the head thinking “why didn’t I think of that?!”
I love that you took such an insanely loud/crazy/sad time and memorialized it in such a quiet/powerful/loving way. Bravo my friend!
Shan - Rachel I love this, because you memorialized it in your own way….I was working at the hospital actually watching TV while changing a diaper. I saw everything and ran around the hospital turning on TV’s so everyone could see and just as I sat down from turning on last TV the second plane crashed…..I have never heard a hospital so silent and I will never forget that……..
Michael Earl - That’s a really awesome story, I’d seen the picture before, but I didn’t know what was behind it, or what it was portraying.
